Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a storied fundraiser for the Clintons, is celebrating this Irish holiday in a most American way: creating a political action committee to raise money to fund friendly candidates.

With similarities to President Obama's Organizing for Action, the first-year governor is calling it “Common Good VA.”

From McAuliffe:

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Friend—

Can you believe that the legislative session in Virginia just finished?

It's pretty incredible to look back on the journey you and I have been on over the past year. Your groundswell of support brought us to victory in November, and together we just concluded an incredibly productive legislative session during which we reformed the SOLs, repealed the hybrid tax, and took many other important steps forward to grow our economy and strengthen our communities.

There's still more work to be done, though, which is why I called a special session and will continue fighting for access to affordable healthcare across the Commonwealth.

Since you've been with me every step of the way, I want you to be the first to know about my plans to continue moving Virginia forward.

Last week I established a political action committee (PAC) to support like-minded candidates who are dedicated to bringing progressive values to their communities, as well as issues that are in line with our top priorities — investing in education, having a healthy workforce, and growing our economy. The PAC is called Common Good VA, and my team and I are thrilled about this exciting new chapter.

You helped bring common sense back to Virginia last year by electing me as your Governor, but if we are to fully realize the promise of that election, now is not the time to sit on the sidelines. I formed Common Good VA to make sure that the ideas that led us to victory in November don't get lost in the partisan battles being waged in Washington and to ensure that those of you who have been with me every step of the way continue to have your voices heard across the Commonwealth.

Common Good VA is ready to make a difference in your community, so be on the lookout for more details about upcoming events and other ways to be involved.

Thanks again for your continuous support — I'm lucky to have you on my team.

-Terry McAuliffe
