A teen has pleaded guilty to attacking former NFL player Ed Beard in Virginia.
Joseph Morgan, 16, pleaded guilty to malicious wounding charges Thursday in Chesapeake Circuit Court, the Associated Press reported.
On Oct. 23, 2011, Beard was riding his bicycle in South Norfolk when he came upon a group of teenagers beating up a boy in a field. When Beard tried to stop the assault, some of the teens attacked him, The Virginian-Pilot reported. Morgan is the third of five teens charged in the attack to plead guilty.
Beard, a 71-year-old former linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, needed stitches after the attack for a gash on the back of his head. He also sustained a black eye and other cuts and bruises.
