A 17-year-old boy was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Fauquier County, authorities said.

About 4 a.m. Friday, law enforcement went to the area of Aquia Road and Tacketts Mill Road and found a vehicle that had been in a crash, then abandoned.

While investigating the crash, deputies with the Fauquier County and Stafford County sheriff's offices went to a house on Tacketts Mill Road, near the border with Stafford County. At the home, teen wielding a knife attacked a deputy, Virginia State Police said.

Deputies shot the boy, who died at the scene. Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
