CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — An Italian restaurant that became a symbol of Russ Wasendorf's excess could be yours.

The receiver liquidating Wasendorf's assets to compensate his fraud victims is auctioning off the Cedar Falls building that housed MyVerona. The bidding starts at $695,000 and continues through Feb. 25.

Wasendorf was sentenced to 50 years in prison for stealing $215 million from customers of his brokerage, Peregrine Financial Group.

A judge blasted Wasendorf for stealing money to live extravagantly. He opened MyVerona in 2009 to reward employees when the company relocated from Chicago.

The restaurant never made money but was the town's nicest. Wasendorf once flew its staff to Italy to learn about cuisine.

The building was listed in October for $995,000. If no one bids, it'll go to a local group for $675,000.
