CISCO, Utah (AP) — A Colorado-based company that operates an oil and gas wastewater disposal facility in Grand County has agreed to pay a $50,000 fine to the state.

The Air Quality Board on Wednesday approved the "early settlement" with Danish Flats Environmental Services over its evaporation ponds north of Cisco, a few miles from the Colorado line on Interstate 70.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1B0l7Vx ) the company was accused of building and operating evaporation ponds without getting permits from the Utah Division of Air Quality.

State regulators put the firm on notice it had ignored permitting requirements under the federal Clean Air Act and state law.

Danish Flats' operations manager Justin Spaeth did not immediately return a phone call.

The company accepts hydrocarbon-laced, brackish water produced from oil and gas wells.
