Trump called Nadler ‘tough’ in get-well-soon call last month

President Trump put politics aside for a moment and reportedly phoned the man who wants to begin an impeachment inquiry against him after the representative suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler was taken to the hospital last month after unexpectedly becoming faint. After arriving at the hospital, Nadler got the surprise call from Trump, according to Yahoo News. The president was reportedly on Air Force One when he called up his political foe.

It was determined that Nadler was just dehydrated, but the New York Democrat was still taken by medical professionals from the Upper West Side press conference he was holding alongside New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“Hospital was just a precaution,” a Nadler staffer said.

During the call the president referred to Nadler as “tough” a number of times, wished him well, and asked if he could do anything for him. Politics was put on the back burner and impeachment was not discussed.

Trump and Nadler aged 72 and 71, respectively, both hail from New York City and have been political enemies for decades. In the 1980s the two sparred over Trump’s plan to start a major real estate project in the district Nadler represents.

Nadler brought in President Richard Nixon’s White House counsel John Dean, 80, to testify before the Judiciary Committee Monday and discuss his perceived parallels between the Watergate scandal and special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on his investigation into the president and Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
