A water main break has shutdown much of Crystal City.

Beginning around 9 a.m. on Friday, Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said a rupture in a 12-inch water main caused a steady flow of water to spray into the air at the intersection of 12th Street and S. Clark Street. As of noon, crews have been unable to stop the water.

The break prompted numerous road closures and caused water flow at many neighboring office and residential complexes to be shut off.

Among the affected areas is the Boeing construction site along Long Bridge Drive, which Sternbeck said would be closed for the rest of the day. He also urged those parked in underground parking garages nearby to move their cars.

Current road closures include: Long Bridge Drive from the Pentagon Access Road and roads running from 12th Street at Army-Navy Drive to S. Clark Street.
