WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — The Republican-American newspaper of Waterbury says it will begin printing next month in Springfield, Mass.

Assistant Publisher William B. Pape says printing at the Springfield division of Advance Publications will make color available on every page and help ensure the newspaper's commitment to publishing seven days a week.

The newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/ZhO8VT ) there will be some reduction in its workforce but exact numbers were not immediately available.

Pape said that like other Connecticut newspapers that have outsourced their printing, the Republican-American was faced with the decision of whether it wanted to be in the publishing business or the printing business.

He said the printing in Springfield will also give the paper more design flexibility than its 44-year-old press can offer.
