The Watergate Exxon -- the District's most notoriously expensive gas station -- is closed, but not permanently.

Owner Joe Mamo told the Washington City Paper the gas station, where gas prices are frequently $1 or more higher than the next highest prices in the District, has been closed for renovation.

The station's former operator, Roland Joun, sold out to a new operator, according to Mamo. Joun clashed with Mamo after he was denied a chance to purchase the station outright and claimed he jacked up prices at the station after Mamo raised the wholesale cost for gasoline.
