Waukegan history teacher finalist for award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois History Teacher of the Year is one of five finalists for the honor nationally.

Joshua Bill of Waukegan High School received the honor in Illinois this May. State education officials said Monday that Bill is one of five finalists for The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's National History Teacher of the Year Award. The winner will be announced this fall and will receive $10,000 and a trip with two of his or her students to the national awards ceremony.

The other finalists come from Hawaii, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C.

Waukegan is located about 45 miles north of Chicago.
