Wendy Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor of Texas, quickly responded to a video of her supporters mocking her Republican opponent Attorney General Greg Abbott for his disability.

The video was released Thursday by conservative journalist James O'Keefe.

“The language used in this video about Greg Abbott is abhorrent,” Davis said in a statement. “Greg Abbott has persevered through great personal challenge to raise a family, have a productive career, and for that he deserves our respect.”

The comments were made by a Battleground Texas volunteer during an event organizing support for Davis.

"Since he's in a wheelchair and most the slogans are 'Stand with Wendy' and 'Stand with Texas Women', isn't that amazing to think of?" asks a volunteer. "He's in a wheelchair and we want to stand with Wendy?"

Another volunteer suggests that Abbott is unattractive.

"First of all he's not good-looking, he doesn't speak very well, he doesn't have a good personality, and he's in a wheelchair," a volunteer says, as people laugh in the background.
