Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis can’t seem to catch a break.

First, Public Policy Polling found Davis trailing her opponent, Republican Greg Abbott, by double digits. Even women preferred Abbott to Davis, 49 percent to 41 percent.

Next, the FBI included Davis in its investigation of the North Texas Tollway Authority. While working for NTTA, Davis voted on bills that benefited her clients, even though she promised she wouldn't.

And now Democratic Governors Association Chairman Peter Shumlin has made it clear he is not very optimistic about Davis' chances in Texas.

“We’re hopeful in Texas but we all understand that Democrats haven’t won Texas in a long time,” Shumlin said Tuesday, as quoted by RealClearPolitics. “We hope this will be our year.”

That’s not exactly a statement of boundless confidence.

The Vermont governor also said he does not expect Democrats to win governorships in New Mexico or Nevada.

“I wish that we could spend money for Democrats in all 50 states,” Shumlin said. “My job is not to promote governors’ races in states where we can’t win.”

Sounds like the DGA is telling Davis: “You’re on your own.”
