The National Center for Education Statistics reports that for the 2011–12 academic year, annual current dollar prices for undergraduate tuition, room and board were estimated to be $14,300 at public institutions, $37,800 at private nonprofit institutions and $23,300 at private for-profit institutions. Of course, at many of the most selective schools, tuition alone is now well over $40,000 – and don’t forget, you have to add in living expenses, books and supplies, transportation, insurance, and incidentals. Well, being divorced makes many things more complicated where parenting is concerned, and so it will probably come as no surprise that navigating the college financial aid waters may be a little more challenging, as well.
