Tenleytown–area Wilson High School was locked down over a gun scare Monday, the second time in two weeks.
Authorities got an anonymous call early Monday about a gun on the third floor of the school, said Mafara Hobson, spokeswoman for Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee.
After searching the campus, police found only a powerful water gun inside a locker, Hobson said.
To make the discovery, authorities locked down the school, she said, meaning that students stayed in their first-period classes longer than normal.
Officials followed the same protocol less than a week ago when security personnel thought a gun might have made it through Wilson’s metal detector.
Hobson said no weapon was recovered in that incident.
Two lockdowns in such a short period of time caused worry among parents such as Dawn Henderson, who pulled her daughter from the school about three weeks ago after she was reportedly jumped by classmates.
“It’s outrageous,” Henderson told The Examiner.
Hobson said school administrators are concerned, up to a point.
“For someone to call and say ‘It’s on the third floor,’ we can’t take these calls for granted,” she said. “It’s like a bomb threat.”
