Where is the hope? Americans despair as Obama begins a new year

A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that Americans increasingly negative about the current situation in the United States.

When asked about a word described their feelings about the state of the nation, 62 percent chose negative ones.

The most popular choice is "divided" with 37 percent of the vote, followed by "troubled" at 23 percent, and "deteriorating" at third place with 21 percent.

"Hopeful" comes in at sixth place at 13 percent.
