Speaking to reporters this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney reaffirmed that wealthy Americans in the top 2 percent of income earners didn’t need a tax cut.

“If there is such passion for that notion that those tax cuts for the top 2 percent must be extended, that Warren Buffet and Bill Gates and Justin Bieber and Mitt Romney and Barack Obama should get a tax cut…we’ll have that debate,” Carney stated.

Carney included Bieber’s name due to a prompting question from CBS White House reporter Mark Knoller.

Another reporter questioned how Carney knew for sure, that Bieber was in the top 2 percent.

“Well based on what Mark said, I’m assuming he’s in the top two percent, but I can’t verify that.” Carney responded.

After the briefing, Mark Knoller mentioned the exchange on Twitter.

“I invite my distinguished colleague @jaketapper to see Forbes analysis of Justin Bieber’s earning power,” Knoller wrote.
