White House Press Secretary Jay Carney reminded reporters Tuesday of the conspiracy theories about President Obama’s birth certificate in an attempt to dodge questions about the current scandals dominating the Washington news cycle.

“We could go down the list –we could say, ‘what about the president’s birth certificate?’” Carney cracked when asked to defend White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer’s claim that Republicans were fabricating illegitimate investigations into the Obama administration because they lack an agenda.

Carney’s birther dodge came when CBS’s Major Garrett asked about the propriety of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius should she face questions about her efforts to raise private funding for Obamacare from the insurance companies that she has the power to regulate.

Sebelius’ fundraising has “precedent,” Carney added.
