Maybe this is where President Obama got the idea to take a controversial “selfie” at Nelson Mandela's funeral.

It turns out that the first lady, Michelle Obama, was months ahead of him in the art of taking self-portraits. According to a digital year in review for the first lady just sent out by the White House, her selfie with first dog Bo taken five months ago on the South Lawn ranks as the sixth-favorite of 17 offered.

“6.) Taking a selfie with Bo (for a good cause),” said the review that included the words tweeted with the photo at the time, “Join the First Lady and help @NatGeo reach a Guinness World Record for the largest online #animal photo album. greatnatureproject.org #GreatNature #selfie.”

Reviewing her digital breakout year, the White House said, “As the year draws to a close, it's time to take a look back at some of our favorite digital moments with First Lady Michelle Obama in 2013. It's been a big year: she started the first official First Lady Twitter (@flotus) and Instagram (@MichelleObama) accounts and recorded her first Vine. She also celebrated the 3rd Anniversary of Let's Move! by ‘mom dancing' with Jimmy Fallon, hung out with Kelly Ripa, answered your questions during her first Twitter chat, and welcomed thousands of Americans to the White House for tours, the annual Easter Egg Roll, and the Kids' State Dinner.”
