White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that Republican’s “Plan B” for a fiscal cliff solution was a non-starter, suggesting that they “were running down a dark alley with no exit.”

When a reporter asked if Obama would “be there at the end of the alley,” Carney laughed, admitting that he was using a metaphor from the summer blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises.

“What I’m confident of is that they don’t have at the end of that alley a Bat Plane to fly out to their own rescue,” Carney joked.

“Does the President have a Batplane?” asked a reporter.

“I can’t talk about that, that’s classified,” Carney cracked.
