White House Chief Technology Officer Todd Park celebrated the end of the enrollment deadline on heathcare.gov by popping the cork on a bottle of champagne.
Park counted down the seconds to midnight on Monday, celebrating the end of the day with QSSI tech workers who spent most of the day frantically trying to keep healthcare.gov up and running.
Park explained that in spite of the website difficulties, 217,176 sign-ups were processed that day, surpassing the 7 million mark for total signups.
"Everyone thought that was impossible, especially after we actually got off to a rocky start, yeah, and I actually am proud to tell y'all and you are the first to know that y'all with this day alone … have carried the ball over the impossible line. You actually exceeded the 7 million enrollees," he said proudly in an audio clip from the event posted by White House reporter April Ryan.
