MILWAUKEE (AP) — Some Wisconsinites traveling for Thanksgiving are trying to be thrifty due to the slow economic recovery.

There was a long line for the 8:15 a.m. train Wednesday to Chicago at a Milwaukee Amtrak station.

Among them were 46-year-old Kelly Roberts and her 7-year-old son Colin. They were spending Thanksgiving in Chicago as tourists.

She says she booked the hotel early for a good price, is getting in free to the museums and is skipping the $65 a person Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel.

Thirty-seven-year-old Daniel Blankenship was taking a day trip with his son and wife, but they were in Wisconsin from Seattle to see family for the holiday.

Blankenship says they switched their travel days and flew into Midway Airport in northern Illinois instead of Milwaukee to save money.
