MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Nonprofits and other groups in Dane County will create 160 paid youth internships this summer.
The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County and others are putting $250,000 into an effort to create opportunities for 15- to 20-year-olds to get ahead in the tough job market.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1kSjRK5 ) internships will go mainly to students of color, low income families and first-generation college students.
The City of Madison will add another 21 positions at 16 agencies in town. That's on top of the nearly $300,000 in city funding Madison provided for six agencies to create more than 500 jobs for teens this year.
The groups are trying to create 1,000 paid internships for students by next summer.
