The Wizards will have to take the positives wherever they can get them this season. So despite their latest three game skid, they’ll happily celebrate Bradley Beal being named NBA Eastern Conference rookie of the month for December.

Beal was tops among first-year players in the conference in scoring (13.4 points per game) and total assists (41) in December. In six out of 14 games during the month he had 15-plus points, and he made a career-high eight field goals in a 100-95 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Dec.18.

Beal (12.5 ppg) is fourth overall among rookies in scoring, but he hasn’t exactly excelled shooting the ball. He has been more assertive in the Wizards’ most recent two games, averaging 18.0 points and matching his career high with 22 points against Dallas on New Year’s Day. He’s improved his shooting percentage to 41.9 percent, up from 36.8 percent in December. At that pace, he’ll put himself in position to win rookie of the month in January, too.

He is the first Wizard to win the honor since John Wall took four in a row from January 2011 to April 2011.
