A woman from China visiting family in Virginia died on Friday after she was pulled from the Potomac River, according to authorities.

Karjai Jiang, 53, was staying with family on the 9100 block of Sterling Montague Drive in Great Falls. Shortly after 9 a.m. she left a note at the house saying she'd gone for a walk at Great Falls National Park, family told police, according to Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.

The woman was pulled from the Potomac River near the Maryland-Virginia border before 10 a.m., and died at a local hospital, authorities said.

Police don't know how she got in the water, but don't suspect foul play, Starks said. Jiang had no known health issues, but family members told police she did not know how to swim.
