A 53-year-old woman died after she was struck in a hit-and-run incident in Montgomery County, police said.

About 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Marlyn Eres Ali was crossing Connecticut Avenue at Everton Street in the Wheaton area when she was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle that hit Ali fled the scene, according to Montgomery County police.

Ali, who lived near where she was struck, was taken to a hospital and later died from her injuries.

Police on Wednesday morning were not confirming what type of vehicle struck Ali, but they believe that the vehicle might have damage to its front end.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information can call 240-773-6620.
