A 59-year-old man has been charged with shooting his older sister to death in Reston, police said.

About 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to a single-family home in the 11300 block of Geddys Court and found 68-year-old Ruth Allen shot in the upper body. She later died at a hospital, Fairfax County police said.

Allen's brother, Charles A. Hamilton, was taken into custody at the home and was charged with murder, police said. Hamilton lived at the residence, and his sister was from elsewhere in Reston.

NBC Washington reported that the suspect and the victim were at the home to talk about the guardianship of another brother who recently had a stroke.

Allen was a life coach and was president of The AEH Institute, according to the business' website. She received a Ph.D. in environmental health from Yale University and was a visiting fellow at the school.
