White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest's second day on the job ended abruptly when an intern fainted during Tuesday's press briefing.

The intern was identified only as a female working for the White House communications staff. It was her first day on the job --quite a way to make a first impression.

The fainting spell cut short the daily press briefing as aides scrambled to help the young woman.

"Why don't we wrap this up and we'll bring some water out here,” Earnest said.

Just before the young woman fainted, Earnest was taking "a particularly awkward grilling" from ABC's Jonathan Karl, according to The Daily Caller.

A pool report by The Huffington Post's Jennifer Bendery indicates Earnest handled the situation with aplomb.

"Earnest and Eric Schultz rushed water over to her, and another aide brought out a small box of M&Ms," Bendery wrote.

Earnest was not as smooth on his first day as press secretary, when he was nailed by reporters for a dishonest answer.
