A 21-year-old woman reported being attacked on the Capital Crescent Trail in Montgomery County, police said.

The woman told police that she was jogging on the trail in between Massachusetts Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard at about 7 p.m. Sunday when she stopped to let deer cross. She was hit on the head from behind, became unconscious and woke up a short time later in the woods off the trail, Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said.

The victim got back on the trail and called for help. A 40-year-old man who was jogging heard her and took her to the 4900 block of Brookeway Drive in Bethesda, where she called police. She was taken to a hospital with a head injury.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing. Authorities are still looking at the evidence but are calling the incident a sexual assault, Starks said.
