HOUSTON (AP) — Texas officials have identified a woman who died aboard an American Airlines flight from Brazil to Texas as a 25-year-old Brazilian.
The Harris County medical examiner's office on Friday identified the woman as Helen Anasthacia De Oliveira Leite. Spokeswoman Tricia Bentley says she had no hometown for the woman, saying only that she was a Brazilian national.
Bentley says an autopsy has been completed but a cause of death hasn't been finalized.
Authorities say the American Airlines Boeing 777 left Sao Paolo for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday with 220 passengers and 14 crew members. The woman went into medical distress and the flight crew and a doctor who happened to be on board worked unsuccessfully to treat her before the plane was diverted to Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport.
