The federal government might not be the only fiscal casualty of last-minute efforts on Capitol Hill to keep the government running: House Speaker John Boehner has had to reschedule a major donor retreat, originally on the calendar for this weekend.

The Senate is expected to send a continuing resolution to fund the government back to the House over the weekend, at which point House leaders will need to scramble if they hope to avert a government shutdown.

If not for these last-minute policy maneuvers, Boehner planned to host select Republican campaign contributors at a two-day retreat at the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Va., beginning Sunday. The event will be rescheduled, a Republican aide said.

The retreat was meant to kickoff Boehner's "Capitol Program," a fundraising effort aimed at attracting five-figure donations to the speaker's political fund.
