JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Redevelopment plans are moving forward for the Iron Horse Grill, a Jackson restaurant abandoned since a fire in 1999.

Built in 1906 by meatpacker Armour Co., the structure was set for demolition after two fires. Investors bought the property in 2009 and plan to reopen the Iron Horse Grill as a 12,000-square foot restaurant and music hall. The building will also house the Mississippi Music Experience, a collection of Mississippi Music Hall of Fame memorabilia collected by Dr. Jim Brewer. A store will feature items from the Mississippi Blues Trail.

Investors are putting $1.5 million into the project, with the city of Jackson providing $2.5 million in urban renewal bonds. Investors will also sell $4.5 million in tax credits, allowing them to reap about $1.75 million.
