INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia State University is getting $300,000 to help start a new program aimed at increasing interest in energy, science and math education.

The Institute school received the donation from the American Electric Power Foundation on Thursday.

Officials say the donation will establish the program focusing on science, technology, education, agriculture and mathematics.

It will include outreach to K-12 youth in West Virginia, create new internship opportunities for underclassmen and establish a faculty research position.
