Anne-Marie Slaughter made waves, not for her "first" -- which was being the first female director of policy planning at the State Department -- but because she wrote the Atlantic's most read article of all time, "Why Women Still Can't Have It All." On Thursday at the W Hotel, Slaughter talked in part about how far women have truly come. The Princeton University professor said in law school she knew one woman lawyer and no judges.

"We've gone from that to a world in which my younger son, who's 14, watched John Kerry at the Democratic convention, asked me who John Kerry was, I said, 'Well, he's a senator and he ran for president and if President Obama's re-elected he could serve as secretary of state," she said. "And my son said to me ... 'You mean a guy can be secretary of state?' " Slaughter said to laughs. "I did tell Secretary Clinton that very quickly," she noted.
