Why does the White House hate Twitter so?
Dylan Byers reports that White House officials have blocked reporters from tweeting Vice President Joe Biden’s remarks during a conference call with the president’s gaffe-prone running mate.
“The embargo will allow journalists to hear the entirety of the Vice President’s remarks and get the benefit of having their questions answered — before trying to condense a 30-minute conference call about a 20-page NEC report into a 140 characters,” explains White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest. This isn’t the first time the Obama administration has complained about Twitter. Just last month, Obama complained about tweets surrounding his major speech about the economy. After his comment that “the private sector is doing fine” the rest of his message to Americans on the economy was lost.
Coverage of that statement incensed Obama, who later complained: “[T]he other side feels that its enough for them to just sit back and say, ‘Things aren’t as good as they should be and it’s Obama’s fault.’” Obama said, according to the pool report. “And, you can pretty much put their campaign on, on a tweet and have some characters to spare.”
