The director of the Reston Zoo was found guilty of animal cruelty Friday for drowning an injured wallaby.

After a one-day trial, Meghan Mogensen, 26, of Silver Spring, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined more than $1,000 for drowning the wallaby that she claimed to have euthanized with drugs, according to the Associated Press.

Mogensen was charged with animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance -- an animal anesthetic that she didn't have a license for -- after a five-month investigation.

Mogensen's father owns the zoo.
