An ammunition depot in Russia near the Ukrainian border reportedly caught fire on Wednesday after explosions were heard in the town.
The weapons warehouse was located in the village of Staraya Nelidovka, in Russia’s Belgorod region, about 15 miles from the Ukrainian border. No one was injured in the incident, according to the governor of the region.
“Near the village of Staraya Nelidovka, according to preliminary information, an ammunition depot is on fire,” Belgorod Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a message posted on Telegram. “There is no destruction of residential buildings, houses. There were no casualties among the civilian population.”
The governor said he was awakened to the sound of a blast early Wednesday morning.

“At about 3:35 a.m., I was woken up by a loud sound like an explosion,” Gladkov said on Telegram. “While I was writing this message, three more explosions sounded.”
Russian air defenses in Belgorod were reportedly active before the fire broke out. Video posted on social media of CCTV footage appears to show an anti-aircraft missile attempting to intercept a target.

Russian officials have not given a cause for the fire or the reported sounds of explosions. Ukrainian officials have also not commented on the incident.
The fire is at least the 13th incident in the Belgorod region that could have been the work of Ukrainian forces hitting Russian military targets. Russian officials have accused Ukraine this month of attacking a fuel depot in the region with helicopters and opening fire on several villages near the border.
