Montgomery County police say Brandon David Betts was almost better at fleeing the armed robberies he attempted than actually getting away with the cash he was trying to steal, at least until he was caught.
Betts, 20, of Colesville, was arrested Wednesday after he fled a BP gas station on the 13300 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Colesville, just hours after attempting to rob a Shell gas station in Hillandale, according to police. He is charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery.
Police said they are unsure why Betts, who was armed with a knife, ran from the Shell, but he took off from the BP when the clerk picked up the phone.
Betts was more successful on July 12, according to police, when they say he ripped off a Colesville Washingtonian gas station after posing as a customer to get close to the attendant. In his failed attempts, Betts covered his face and wasn’t close enough to attendants to directly threaten them with the knife, police reported.
