The Maryland inmate found dead in his cell last week has been identified as Blas Ramon Mata Aguilar, according to Maryland State Police. His death has been ruled a homicide.
Aguilar, 41, was found unresponsive in his cell in the early morning of Feb. 2 at the Western Correctional Institution. He died from blunt force trauma and asphyxia.
Aguilar had been serving an 11-year sentence for sexual assault and other charges since 2004. State police said his wife and daughter, who live in New York, were notified Tuesday.
No one has been charged in his death and police continue to investigate.
The facility is located in Cresaptown, Md., south of Cumberland.
