Va. expects more federal storm-damage funding

The $2.2 million that U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Virginia would get to repair storm-damaged roads is only a fraction of the $10 million state officials said is needed to make those repairs.

The state’s Department of Transportation and local governments are paying to repair the damage done by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee and are waiting for a partial reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The state wants FEMA to pay 75 percent of the road-repair costs, said Virginia Department of Emergency Management spokesman Bob Spieldenner.
