Virginia State Police said two bodies were found after planes collided mid-air Monday in Fauquier County.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the two planes collided and crashed to the ground about a mile apart, Virginia State Police said.
One of the planes, believed to be a six-seater, caught fire upon impact, police said. The pilot and a passenger of the plane were killed, and the medical examiner is identifying them through DNA.
The second plane’s pilot, 70-year-old Thomas R. Proven, was taken to a hospital, police said. Provin, who was flying a 1965 Piper PA28140, was still being treated at the hospital as of about noon Tuesday.
