Two killed in collision with tow truck in Silver Spring

Police are continuing to investigate a Thursday collision between a car and a tow truck in Silver Spring that left two people dead.

Olin Dale Soreson, 26, died from his injuries at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and a 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Montgomery County police did not identify the woman in a news release because her family hadn’t been notified.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the crash in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. According to a preliminary investigation, a black 2006 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound entered the center of the road and collided with a black 1995 Ford tow truck traveling westbound.

Soreson was driving the Toyota and the other victim was a passenger in the car, police said. The tow truck’s driver, 51-year-old Melesio J. Monterroza Cartagena, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses can call police at 301-840-2435 to provide information. Callers can remain anonymous.
