Roseanne Barr: Trump isn’t homophobic, supports her views ‘quite well’

Comedian and outspoken liberal Roseanne Barr says President Trump voices many of her principles and viewpoints “quite well.”

In an interview with the New York Times, Barr defended her decision to create her character as a Trump supporter in the reboot of her hit 90’s sitcom “Roseanne” and suggested that she has more in common with the president’s views than people might assume.

When asked how she could support him when he opposes issues she and her character, Roseanne Conner, have stood for in the past, such as same-sex marriage, abortion, and labor protection, she argued he doesn’t oppose them at all and stands for them “quite well.”

“He doesn’t oppose same-sex marriage,” she insisted.

When the reporter argued that he hasn’t come out in full support of LGBT rights, Barr snapped back arguing that he isn’t homophobic and in fact, supports same-sex marriage.

“He does. Yes, he does. He has said it several times, you know, that he’s not homophobic at all,” she argued.

The sitcom was considered a trailblazer during its original run for its diversity of LGBT characters and the main character, Roseanne, who didn’t fit the mold for your typical female lead at the time.

Barr explained the sitcom reboot, which is set to debut this week after 21 years, is hoping to shed some light on why the working class chose to elect President Trump and the family conflicts that arose out of this past election.

The upcoming season will be addressing modern-day issues such as raising gender-fluid children and the opioid crisis from the working class perspective.
