California authorities take down large Trump freeway sign

A large Trump sign that could be seen along the 405 freeway in Southern California early Tuesday morning has been taken down.

The sign, which was first reported to the California Highway Patrol at around 7 a.m. PDT and went viral on Twitter, was placed on private property overlooking thousands of Los Angeles motorists.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol logged the sign as a “traffic hazard” and noted the location of the sign among a patch of dry brush could potentially ignite and start a fire in the already hard-stricken state.

Eric Menjivar of CalTrans said a crew of workers had the sign down by 10 a.m. after it caused drivers to slow down and take pictures. He said officials had yet to confirm the owner of the property where the sign was posted.

In 2016, President Trump registered the lowest vote total of a major-party candidate in California since 1924, when he was beaten there by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
