Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson recently cooperated with the Department of Justice’s sprawling inquiry into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, according to a report.
DOJ officials connected with Hutchinson after her bombshell testimony before the House Jan. 6 committee last month, but the extent of her cooperation and the information the investigators sought is not clear, ABC reported.
DOJ INVESTIGATING TRUMP IN JAN. 6 INVESTIGATION: REPORT
Since the riot, prosecutors have been investigating rioters and have prosecuted over 850 people for crimes related to the Jan. 6 attack. But the inquiry is believed to extend past the Capitol riot and encompass coinciding efforts to challenge the 2020 election.
In recent weeks, Trump-linked lawyer John Eastman and former Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark were searched by law enforcement officers believed to be tied to the DOJ’s Jan. 6 inquiry. Both men mused about an alternate electors scheme to tip the election to former President Donald Trump.
A onetime aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Hutchinson recalled communications between her boss and those scheming to challenge the 2020 election. She delivered disputed testimony that she was told an enraged Trump attempted to commandeer the steering wheel of a Secret Service vehicle and lunge for the throat of an agent after he was told he could not go to the Capitol following his speech at the White House Ellipse on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump and key members of his security detail at the time have reportedly denied those claims.
