Brazilian former President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to an American hospital one day after his supporters stormed Brazil’s National Congress, presidential palace, and other government buildings.
He was admitted to AdventHealth Celebration, a hospital outside Orlando, after complaining of severe abdominal pain, according to Globo. Bolsonaro has repeatedly suffered from abdominal pain following an assassination attempt in 2018, when he was stabbed in the abdomen while immersed in a crowd of supporters.

In 2022 alone, he was admitted to the hospital three times: in January, March, and, most recently, November.
Bolsonaro has been living at the residence of a UFC champion in Orlando after leaving Brazil in the final days of his administration, apparently to avoid charges from the Brazilian government. He tweeted out a condemnation of the actions of his supporters on Sunday following the protest.
“Peaceful demonstrations, in the form of the law, are part of democracy. However, depredations and invasions of public buildings as occurred today, as well as those practiced by the left in 2013 and 2017, escape the rule,” he tweeted hours after the start of the riot. “Throughout my mandate, I have always been within the four lines of the Constitution, respecting and defending the laws, democracy, transparency, and our sacred freedom.”

In July 2021, he was hospitalized after suffering from chronic hiccups, forcing him to cancel a meeting with Brazil’s legislature and judiciary. The hiccups were apparently unrelated to his stab wounds.
