Kanye West on defending Trump over George W. Bush: ‘Racism isn’t the deal breaker for me’

Kanye West explained his support for President Trump over former President George W. Bush, whom the rapper once said “doesn’t care about black people.”

During an interview with radio host Charlamagne tha God released Tuesday, West said a friend asked him, “What makes George Bush any more racist than Trump?”

“My response is: Well, racism isn’t the deal breaker for me. If that was the case, I wouldn’t live in America,” West said.

Charlamagne said West wouldn’t be saying that if he wasn’t wealthy. West countered that he still experiences racism as a wealthy black man living in a gated community.

West shocked viewers in 2005 when he said on national television that Bush “doesn’t care about black people” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

West made headlines last week when he announced his support for Trump, who has been accused of having racist views. West’s wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, forced the rapper to clarify that he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s views.
