Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been permanently suspended from Twitter.
This suspension was due to the fifth strike against Greene’s account, which has been suspended several times by Twitter for spreading misinformation about the coronavirus and the 2020 elections.
“We permanently suspended the account you referenced (@mtgreenee) for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy,” a Twitter spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. “We’ve been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy.”

While Greene’s account was permanently suspended, her congressional account, @RepMTG, is still active.
Greene responded to the suspension on her Telegram account, calling the social media company “an enemy to America” that “can’t handle the truth.”
“That’s fine, I’ll show America we don’t need them and it’s time to defeat our enemies,” Greene wrote. “They can’t successfully complete a Communist revolution when people tell the truth.”
“Social media platforms can’t stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big Tech can’t stop the truth. Communist Democrats can’t stop the truth. I stand with the truth and the people. We will overcome!” Greene added.
A spokesperson for Greene’s office claims that a thread posted on Saturday about “Before COVID” and “After COVID” was what led to the suspension. In the thread, Greene goes into detail about how life changed after the coronavirus, including allegations that “unvaccinated healthy people are a subclass being fired and denied services” and how “people are considered criminals if they don’t wear masks.” Greene concluded by saying “After Covid, We are no longer free.” Twitter did not respond to requests to confirm if this thread did cause the suspension.
Twitter suspended Greene several times in 2021 for spreading misinformation about the 2020 elections and the coronavirus. On Jan. 17, Twitter suspended parts of Greene’s account after the congresswoman blamed state leaders’ unwillingness to “fix our elections” for Republicans losing both Senate seats in Georgia. Greene’s most recent suspension occurred on Aug. 10, when she tweeted, “These vaccines are failing & do not reduce the spread of the virus & neither do masks.”

Twitter’s coronavirus misinformation policy states that content posted on its platform that is “demonstrably false or misleading and may lead to significant risk of harm (such as increased exposure to the virus, or adverse effects on public health systems) may not be shared on Twitter.”
Twitter maintains a five-strike ban policy when it comes to coronavirus misinformation. Accounts can face temporary locks if they post false information about the coronavirus on their feed. After five strikes, they are permanently banned.
