‘Mark my words’: Biden predicts Trump will try to postpone election

Former Vice President Joe Biden predicted that President Trump will try to delay the 2020 presidential election.

Biden, while speaking at a virtual fundraiser on Thursday evening, said the president would try to postpone the election because “that’s the only way he thinks he can possibly win.”

“Mark my words: I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow; come up with some rationale why it can’t be held,” Biden said. “Imagine threatening not to fund the post office. Now, what in God’s name is that about? Other than trying to let the word out that he’s going to do all he can to make it very hard for people to vote. That’s the only way he thinks he can possibly win.”

The coronavirus pandemic has sparked a debate over mail-in voting and absentee ballots as states are ordering people not to leave their home and primaries are canceled.

Only Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Utah conduct their elections entirely by mail. More than half of states allow voters to participate in elections via absentee ballots without needing an explanation.

Trump has expressed concern about large-scale mail-in voting, arguing it has “tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

Biden later promised, “You can be assured, between [Trump] and the Russians, there is going to be an attempt to interfere.”
