69-year-old concealed carry permit holder fends off three suspected robbers and shoots one in the knee

A 69-year-old concealed carry permit holder defended himself from three men reportedly attempting to rob him in Chicago, leaving one of them shot.

Three men approached the 69-year-old victim late Tuesday night and demanded he hand over his belongings, Chicago police say. But the man, who is a licensed concealed carry holder, pulled out his gun and fired a shot at one of the suspects, striking him in the knee.

All three suspects fled the scene in a red Ford Fusion before crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot. All three suspects were taken into police custody and hospitalized shortly after.

The incident is still under investigation.

GROUP: BIDEN GUN CONTROL WOULD ‘CRIMINALIZE’ 105M LAW-ABIDING PEOPLE

Despite the ability to conceal carry weapons often being a controversial political topic, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers have shown that guns are used in self-defense between 500,000-3 million times per year, much larger than the number of deaths and injuries attributed to firearm use.

Less than a month into taking office, President Biden released a statement signaling his intent to lead an effort for more gun control.

“This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer,” Biden said last month. “Today, I am calling on Congress to enact commonsense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets. We owe it to all those we’ve lost and to all those left behind to grieve to make a change. The time to act is now.”

But the administration has already received pushback from gun rights groups, which say the president should stay away from limiting law-abiding citizens’ access to guns.

“While we can agree that there are several ‘common sense’ and long overdue changes needed to our nation’s gun laws, we firmly believe that the path forward should be focused on supporting and protecting responsible, law-abiding Americans — not criminalizing and punishing them,” the U.S. Concealed Carry Association said in a letter to Biden last month.
