ICE to expedite Haitian arrests and deportations as protected status expires: Report

Immigration and Customs Enforcement are looking to expedite deportations of Haitian immigrants as their temporary protected status comes to an end.

Citing two agency sources and federal documents, CBS News reported that the agency is looking to ramp up its operations targeting Haitians, arresting and sending them back to the crisis-ridden island as soon as possible. The Department of Homeland Security ended TPS for over 500,000 Haitians last summer, but the matter had been held up in the courts. The Trump administration won a major Supreme Court victory last month, allowing it to end TPS protections, with the court’s mandate taking effect in lower courts on Monday.
